Don Charía Scholarship Fund
The Don Charía Scholarship Fund is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to the children of coffee producers who are part of the Coopeldos R.L. family.
Given the economic needs faced by young students who are the children of coffee producers in the area of influence of our Cooperative, and for those young students who come from rural areas with difficult access to education, the idea was born this year (2022) to create a scholarship fund through the sale of Café Tilawa Selected Coffee. With the purchase of each package of this coffee, you will be contributing $1 USD to this noble fund which will provide student scholarships for the children of our producers so they can subsidize and finish their academic schooling in order to have a better future.

But who was Don Charía?
"Don Charía", whose real name was José María Valenciano Blanco, was a pioneer in the coffee activity in the Cordillera de Tilarán and also in the towns of the area. His parents arrived in the area in the 1930's when he was still very young.
Don Charía fostered the development and well-being of the communities and people in our area and also motivated many farmers to create Coopeldos R.L. in the late 60's.
But it was not until 1970, after Don Charía had deceased, that the need arose in a group of neighboring coffee producers to assemble and fight together for the needs that existed.
It was then, in 1971, that COOPELDOS R.L. was founded. With 79 coffee producers, COOPELDOS R.L. is a cooperative company comprised of small coffee producers from the upper zone of Tilarán, Abangares and Monteverde Costa Rica.
This is how our "History of a Coffee" began along with the lives of those pioneering people who, with honest work, solidarity, joy of living, and strength in the face of adversity, forged the spirit of development from a single cup of coffee. The unique chocolaty flavor of that single cup of coffee, along with its fresh, energetic and revitalizing body, has since been tasted by palates around the world.
